DAY 5 PATH / GODS
Path of the gods
This hiking trail along the Amalfi Coast is known for its stunning views of the
coastline. Spanning approximately 4.3 miles, the hike typically takes between 3 to
5 hours to complete, depending on your pace and the time you spend at various
points of interest along the way.
Getting There
The most common starting point for the hike is the village of Bomerano in Agerola.
You can take a bus or ferry from Sorrento to Amalfi and then transfer to the bus
heading to Agerola. Ask the driver to let you off at the "Bomerano" stop. From
there, follow the signs to the trailhead at Piazza Paolo Capasso.
The Hike
Begin your hike at Piazza Paolo Capasso in Bomerano. Cross the wooden bridge
and follow the road until you reach a clearing where the trail begins. As you start
hiking, you will see the Grotta del Biscotto, a cave with ancient rock formations.
Continuing along the trail, you will come across the Monastero di San Domenico,
the remains of a 16th-century monastery. The trail is marked with red and white
markers, so be sure to follow these as you make your way along the path. As you
continue, you’ll be treated to views of the coastline, including the colorful houses of
Positano, the Faraglioni rocks of Capri, and the Mediterranean Sea. The trail also
passes through olive groves and terraced vineyards. At Colle Serra, you'll reach a
crossroad. Both routes lead back to the main trail, but the lower route is more
scenic. The hike ends in Nocelle, a village above Positano. From Nocelle, you can
either take a bus or hike down the 1,000 steps to Positano and return by ferry.
Tips
Start your hike early in the day to avoid the heat and have more time to enjoy the
views. Pack light but don’t forget to bring water, snacks, sunscreen, and a hat.
Lastly, wear comfortable hiking shoes and dress in layers.
